What are cPanel and WHM and do I need them?
cPanel and WHM are control panels that can be purchased for your VPS. cPanel and WHM lets you manage websites you host and your server on a control panel that is easy to use. If you feel that working within a terminal interface and typing in commands would be difficult, a control panel is a good option. A licence for cPanel and WHM is an additional monthly cost on top of your VPS price, and will vary depending on the number of sites you host on your server.
What’s the difference between Web Hosting and a Virtual Private Server?
Web Hosting refers to shared hosting, where you have space on a server to host your files, but cannot access the server’s configuration or settings directly. Your web host will take care of the maintenance and security of the server, and you just need to worry about your website. With a VPS, you have full access to the server, and can configure it any way you want to, but you’re also responsible for security updates, operating system changes, and regular software maintenance.
Is a VPS the right choice for my websites?
A VPS is a major step up from a web hosting package. While you do get more control and resources with a VPS, you also get much more responsibility. Through the root access, you can install and upgrade the server’s operating system and installed modules. And if you’re not sure what you’re doing, you could easily end up needing to revert your server back to its factory settings, wiping your data. If you don’t feel comfortable with a steep learning curve, or don’t want the responsibility, we recommend our Managed WordPress or Web Hosting packages.
What if I want something else?
If you’re interested in more space, a different operating system, a particular location, or something different, talk to us! We can work with you to see if we can provide you with what you need.
What is a Virtual Private Server (VPS)?
A VPS is part of a larger dedicated server. Using Hypervisor technology, we split our servers into smaller independent virtual servers. This gives you the benefits and flexibility of your own dedicated server, but without the higher costs of running a large server.
What can I host on a VPS with Eco Web Hosting?
As long as it complies with the requirements of UK law, we don’t mind what you host on your VPS. A Virtual Private Server is private to you, and we will not actively monitor the contents of your VPS. We do, however, reserve the right to check for illegally hosted content and data when we are required to.
Do I have to manage my VPS myself?
Our VPS servers come unmanaged by default, giving you full root access to install and configure whatever you need. If you would prefer a managed experience, we offer optional management plans and a paid cPanel/WHM licence for a more familiar control panel interface. Our UK support team can also help with one-off configuration tasks – just open a ticket.

All of our VPS servers are hosted in our UK data centre, giving UK visitors the lowest possible response times and keeping your data on home soil.

We accept all major credit and debit cards. All prices are in pound sterling and do not include tax, which will be added at checkout based on your location.
